"Symposium on Promotion of Indigenous CFD Process in Engineering Sciences"

Exploring SPICES: Where CFD Meets Validation

Welcome to the SPICES Workshop section of the TAAI website, your gateway to understanding and engaging with this exceptional event. SPICES, short for the "Symposium on Promotion of Indigenous CFD Process in Engineering Sciences," has been a critical initiative to verify, validate, and certify the CFD process used by the Indian Aerospace Industry. Organized by the Trust for Advancement of Aerodynamics in India (TAAI), SPICES has a rich history of nurturing the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in India.

SPICES: A Chronicle of Progress

SPICES had its inception in 2009, becoming a pioneering event that laid the foundation for a rigorous evaluation of CFD processes in India. This endeavor emerged from the need for indigenous CFD efforts that could yield general-purpose RANS solvers for the aerospace industry. It was envisioned as a platform to assess these codes for their accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and robustness. SPICES-01 was held at the Computational Research Lab, Pune, and featured the NASA Trapezoidal Wing for code evaluation.

Given the importance of this CFD validation process, TAAI recognized the need for SPICES to become a regular event, with a focus on configurations relevant to the Indian Aerospace community. Subsequently, SPICES-02 in 2013 featured a flying wing configuration, with surface data provided by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bangalore.

SPICES continued its mission to foster validation studies with other configurations vital to the Indian Aerospace industry. This unique initiative has brought together RANS code developers from Indian Aerospace Agencies, academic institutions, and vendors of commercial CFD codes. The role of the organizers has been pivotal, with TATA CRL's contribution, providing grids and data that have become instrumental in these validation studies.

SPICES: The Quest for Excellence

The SPICES workshop embodies a commitment to advancing CFD processes and technologies. It stands as a symbol of India's pursuit of excellence in the field of computational aerodynamics. Through collaboration, rigorous evaluation, and knowledge sharing, SPICES has played a crucial role in raising the bar for CFD applications in the aerospace industry.

This section of the TAAI website offers valuable insights into SPICES' history, objectives, and achievements. You can explore details about the past workshops and their outcomes, discover the scope and purpose of each event, and access information about the participants and their contributions.

Join us on a journey through the world of Computational Fluid Dynamics and the vibrant history of SPICES. Together, we continue to validate, verify, and certify CFD processes, ensuring a brighter future for aerospace design in India.
