Origins of SAROD The inception of SAROD can be traced back to the early 2000s, a pivotal period when aerospace conferences in India predominantly gravitated towards research in fluid dynamics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). However, the industry lacked a dedicated platform to showcase its applied work and share insights into the practical facets of aerodynamics. SAROD emerged as the solution to this pressing need. It was conceived to provide aerospace professionals, researchers, and industry experts with a unique opportunity to spotlight and delve into the world of applied aerodynamics, with a particular emphasis on aircraft, missiles, and launch vehicle design.

Honouring Aerodynamist

A watershed moment in the SAROD journey was its alignment with the 60th birthday celebration of the eminent aerodynamicists of the host organisation ADA, adding a distinctive layer of significance to the conference. This transformation turned it into an unforgettable event that celebrated both the spirit of innovation and the dedication to aerospace advancement by Aerodyanamists. This tradition of honoring aerodynamists who contributed to the advancement of Aerodynamics continued as one of the enduring customs of subsequent SAROD conferences.

Held biennially, SAROD continued to evolve and expand. Its unwavering dedication to applied aerodynamics and aerospace design remained at the heart of its mission. Successive conferences were hosted in different cities across India, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Trivandrum. These locations were chosen strategically due to their pivotal roles as centers for Aircraft, Missile, and Launch Vehicle design, each contributing to the rich tapestry of knowledge and expertise that SAROD represented.

A Brief Intermission

Following SAROD-2015, a temporary pause in the series occurred due to various factors. However, the legacy of SAROD remained steadfast, and its influence continued to resonate throughout the field of aerodynamics.

Even in the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, SAROD persevered as a symbol of resilience. After a significant gap, SAROD-2023 marked the triumphant return of this exceptional conference, graciously hosted by DRDL in Hyderabad.
